Book Folds

Many of my take homes include these folds. Instead of giving instructions each time how to make the folds, here is an explanation how to make each.

Pop-up Book

Before Class:

  1. You need 1 half sheet of paper for each pop-up book and 1 half sheet of construction paper.
  2. 2. Fold the paper in half and cut the lines that cross the center fold of the paper. (figure 1)
  3. 3. Open the page and pull the cut strip (you will glue pictures on this tab later) toward the
inside. (figure 2) and fold page down. The fold should now be notched. (figure 3)
  4. 4. Glue into a half sheet of construction paper for the cover and glue on cover text (will be in a decorative bordered box).

In class:

  1. Have the children color the page and figures to be glued in if desired.
  2. Glue the picture to the tab (figure 4) Be sure the bottom of the picture is just resting on the bottom page.

Match Book

  1. Fold top of rectangle down to about 1/2 inch from bottom.
  2. Fold the remaining 1/2 up, overlapping the first fold to look like a matchbook cover.

Lift-A-Flap

  1. If cutting lines are given, cut around selected pictures; if no cutting lines are given cut around 3 sides of various items, being sure to cut around the item that has the hidden picture behind it.
  2. Glue page 1 on top of page 2 lining up outside boxes.
Tab Book

  1. Cut out pages along solid line.
  2. Cut away grey areas at top of pages.
  3. Stack up with the page with the largest cut out on top working to page with no cut out on bottom.
    Staple on left side.
