Children's Bible Class Songs

Home: Song Index | Welcome and Goodbye | In the Beginning | Abraham Issac & Jacob | Joseph | Moses | Children of Israel | Joshua and Judges | Kings |

Many of these songs I have known/song all of my life. Others I have just picked up along the way from others. I do not know who wrote many of them. I have tried to include the author's name, if known. Any songs I or my husband have written (Mary S or Keith S) may be used freely in teaching children about the Lord.

KINGS

We Want A King

We want a king! We want a king!
We want to be like ev'ryone else,
So, We want a king!

Give us a king! Give us a King!
God let them be like ev'ryone else.
He gave them a king!

Saul is their king! Saul is their king!
Now they're just like ev'ryone else
'Cause Saul is their king!

David

Young David killed a big bear.
Yes, he trusted in God.
Now, the big bear is dead.
He knew that God would be there.
Yes, young David believed.
Now, the big bear is dead.

Young David killed a big lion.
Yes, he trusted in God.
Now, the big lion's dead.
He knew that God would be there.
Yes, young David believed.
Now, the big lion's dead.

Young David killed a big man.
Yes, he trusted in God.
Now the Goliath is dead.
He knew that God would be there.
Yes, young David believed.
Now, Goliath is dead.

There was a boy named David

There was a boy named David,
down by a bubbling brook.
There was a boy named David,
five smooth stones he took.

One smooth stone went in the sling,
the sling went round and round.
One smooth stone went in the sling,
the sling went round and round.

Round and round and round and round
and round and round and round--
the stone flew right through the air,
and the giant came tumbling down!

David, Son of Jesse
(tune Davy Crocket)

The young man David, Jesse's son
Went out to see what the army had done.
Over on the hill stood Goliath well seen,
the old mitghty giant, the big Philistine.

The giant stood there in armor all arrayed,
of this big man all Israel was afraid.
David said, "The Lord who put the lion in my hand
will give me the power to conquer that man."

David took his staff and went to the brook,
and five little stones from it he took.
He put them in his bag and then drew near,
believing in God without any fear.

The giant saw David and his small size,
but, oh, how his army was soon surprised.
When David with his sling struck the giant in the head;
down fell Goliath and his wicked army fled.

CHORUS:
David, son of Jesse,
A man after God's own heart

Solomon

Solomon. Oh, Solomon's the grandest king.
Solomon. He's got the best of ev'rything.

God asked him what he wanted.
He said, "Please make me wise."
God gave him lots of wisdom,
Plus health and wealth besides.

He is Solomon. Oh, Solomon's the grandest king.
Solomon. He's got the best of ev'rything.

2Chron.12:14
(tune Are You Sleeping?)by Mary S

Rehoboam
Rehoboam
Did evil
Did evil
Because he did not
prepare his heart
To serve the Lord
to serve the Lord.

King Jehoshaphat
(tune: London Bridge) by Mary S

King Jehoshaphat reigned in Judah, reigned in Judah, reigned in Judah;
King Jehoshaphat reigned in Judah after Asa.

Jehoshaphat sought the Lord his God, the Lord his God, the Lord his God;
Jehoshophat sought the Lord his God and obeyed Him.

He tore down idols and taught the people, taught the people, taught the people;
He tore down idols and taught the people God’s Law.

The Philistines and Arabians, Arabians, Arabians.
The Philistines and Arabians brought him much gifts.

God blessed the people of Judah, Judah, Judah,
God blessed the people of Judah because he sought Him.

Asa

(tune: The Mulberry Bush) by Mary S

Asa did what was the right
what was right, what was right;
Asa did what was right in the eyes of God

Asa cried out to the Lord,
to the Lord, to the Lord
Asa cried out to the Lord, don’t let man prevail.

God struck the Egyptians
The Egyptians, the Egyptians
God struck the Egyptians before Asa and Judah.

The fear of the Lord came upon all,
came upon all, came upon all
The fear of the Lord came upon all and they carried away much spoil.

Josiah

Josiah was a very good king.
But, there's just one little thing.
He was just eight years old
when he became king.

Josiah was a very good king.
He said, "We'll do ev'rything
that God wants us to do
since I am king.

God Took Care of Elijah
(by Ruth Hale)

God took care of Elijah, Elijah, Elijah
god took care of Elijah, Down by the babbling brook.

Elijah drank of the water, the water, the water,
Elijah drank of the water, out of the babbling brook.

The black ravens came flying, came flying, came flying;
The black ravens came flying, bringing meat and bread.

Oh, God took care of Elijah, Elijah, Elijah;
Oh, God took care of Elijah, because he loved this man.

Yes, God loves more than Elijah, Elijah, Elijah;
Yes, God loves more than Elijah, I know He loves me, too.

Seek Ye First

Seek ye first the kingdom of God
And it’s righteousness
And all these things shall be added unto you,
Allelu, Alleluia.
